What is a youth worker and how can they help?

A youth worker provides support, guidance and advocacy to help young people navigate challenges, build resilience, achieve their goals and access opportunities within their communities.

Youth workers create a safe, welcoming and non-judgemental environment where young people can discuss their concerns, explore support options and build the skills and confidence needed to make informed decisions about their future. Support may include:

  • Education, employment and training pathways
  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Housing and financial difficulties
  • Family and relationship challenges
  • Social connection and community participation
  • Accessing community services and support networks

If you need more specialised support, such as a nurse, counsellor, case worker or other professional service, or if you are looking for new opportunities and pathways, we encourage you to complete the referral form below.

City of Canterbury Bankstown’s Youth Development Officers can help assess your needs, connect you with appropriate services, provide information and referrals, and support you and your family to access the assistance needed to achieve positive outcomes.
