Rare Disease Day
Recognised every year it encourages us take a moment to think about those in our community with a rare disease.
Many in our community are living with rare diseases.
A disease is known as rare when it affects fewer than 1 in 2000 people. While these diseases may be called rare, there are approximately 300m people across the world living with them - between 3.5-5.9% of the population.
Diagnosis of a rare disease is often slow due to the lack of information and knowledge. The right treatment and care can be hard to find and health care costs can build up rapidly. For many of these diseases, there is no known cure.
Rare diseases impact not only the person with the disease, but their family, friends and carers.
Rare Disease Day is recognised every year and encourages you take a moment to think about these people - and consider getting involved in the efforts to raise awareness and generate change: Rare Disease Day 2024
