Active Seniors in the City
Almost a quarter of residents living in the City of Canterbury Bankstown are 55 years old or greater
These residents are an integral and essential part of our community and it should be recognised that enjoying a valued role as well as a meaningful life in our community as we grow older is something that everyone should be able to aspire to.
The needs of residents inevitably change as they get older, but this doesn't affect everyone in the same way because people age differently and have a range of individual situations and expectations depending on their values, personal experience and cultural background.
However, there are some changes that do tend to affect people in similar ways as they move through various life stages. People in their 50s often find that their children have left home, and they may find themselves exploring new interests and activities to add fulfilment to their lives. This tends to increase as people who are working start thinking about part-time work or retirement.
A wide range of services are available in our area to help people maintain their independence for as long as possible as they get older. This can take the form of assistance with transport, regular social contact, help to maintain a safe home environment and personal care.
We recognise the diversity of changing needs of residents as they grow older and offer a range of activities that serve as pathways towards the various goals and aspirations of seniors in our City.
